Anambra born business executive, philanthropist and advocate for good governance, Sir CC Onyeze has described the ongoing nationwide protests as a response to the government’s inability to address the issue of insecurity and terrible economic situation facing the country.
The international business mogul stated this on Monday while reacting to the ongoing nationwide protests. Speaking to journalists in a telephone conversation, the outspoken role-model for young people and employer of labour raised concerns over the inadequate provision of basic infrastructure and enabling environment for quality education and businesses to thrive across Nigerian society, noting that unless the government takes urgent action to stabilize the system, the agitations may not abate.
Onyeze further emphasized the urgent need for reassessment of government’s approach towards the multifaceted challenges of the people, contending that they were actually elected to provide solutions, rather than having to come up with excuses which unfortunately suggests a case of incompetence to the citizenry.
He stated that no matter how smart or determined a leader is, he cannot possibly make significant progress in public administration without a viable framework for effective development and attraction of both indigenous and foreign investors. Onyeze further noted that no amount of damage control or empty promises can address the situation on ground, hence the compelling need for leaders to be focused and live up to expectations.
Onyeze hailed the South-East Youths, especially those in Anambra State for airing their views without taking to the streets in large numbers, thereby avoiding possible hijacking of the peaceful protest by criminal elements that do not spare lives and property once they take control of such exercise.
He called on Nigeria’s security operatives, public office holders, religious and community leaders to do everything constitutionally appropriate, within their various areas of jurisdiction to ensure speedy resolution of the growing sociopolitical, economic and security challenges that is threatening Nigeria as a country, and rendering its citizens, especially the low-income earners incapable of meeting their essential needs.
Sir CC Onyeze concluded by reiterating his commitment towards continuous assistance of the people through community clusters, with a view to ameliorate the adverse effects of the economic crunch that is currently rendering homes and businesses within the areas he can cover on a gradual process.
