Anambra state would be conducting it’s local government election on the 28th of September this year.
This is coming as over two hundred aspirants battle for the nomination tickets of four major political parties in the state.
According to a release signed by the Chief Electoral Officer of Anambra Independent Electoral Commission ANSIEC Genevieve C Osakwe the time table and guidelines for the proposed election would be made public on Wednesday August 14 2024.
Before this development over two hundred persons have indicated interest in the nomination tickets of the for major political parties in the area.
In the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA about sixty three aspirants including the incumbent Transition Committee Chairmen have commenced consultations among party leadership and structures.
A total of fifty two aspirants are contesting for the tickets of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, fifty three aspirants are in the All Progressives Congress APC while forty two are in the Labor Party.
The last time Anambra conducted local government election was towards the end of the eight year tenure of Mr Peter Obi as governor of Anambra state as the then governor used Transition Committee Chairmen and Councillors as well as heads of local government administration who were the most Senior Civil Servants in the twenty one local government areas.
Same was also the case with the regimes of Sen Chris Ngige and Chief Willie Obiano , though under Ngige date for the election was fixed and all processes in place but it was stopped following the mayhem by hoodlums in the State who burnt the complex of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission ANSIEC.
Recall that Gov Charles Soludo had set up and inaugurated the six man member of the State Electoral Commission to conduct the election last two weeks.
