Tragic Killing of APC Councillorship Candidate

In a shocking incident on Saturday afternoon, Adeyinka Adeleke, a councillorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming local government elections, was shot dead in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State.

Witnesses reported that a group of armed assailants arrived in a tinted vehicle, opening fire indiscriminately. Adeleke was targeted and left severely injured, ultimately succumbing to his wounds at the scene. A disturbing video that circulated online captured the aftermath, showing Adeleke’s lifeless body while bystanders expressed their grief.

Local sources indicated that the attack caused widespread panic, with residents fleeing for safety. One witness shared, “The gunmen ambushed the APC candidate for Ibara Ward 15, Adeyinka Adeleke, firing at him before brutally ensuring his death with stones. The atmosphere is tense as people are locking up their shops.”

Another eyewitness described the harrowing details, stating that one assailant fired at Adeleke from close range before inflicting further harm. The incident occurred around 2 PM, leaving the community in shock and raising fears of potential gang-related violence.

Adeleke was known to have worked in the transport union in the Panseke area prior to his candidacy. The local police confirmed the incident and noted that Adeleke’s family had taken his body for burial. As of now, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola has not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
