Chief Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Aba North and South Constituency, may face disciplinary action from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) following reports of an alleged assault on a taxi driver.
The decision follows a viral video showing the lawmaker allegedly assaulting the driver, an act that APGA has publicly condemned.
According to Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, the party’s ideology is rooted in being one’s “brother’s keeper,” and such behavior contradicts APGA’s values. He stated that a disciplinary committee would be established to investigate the incident, and, if found culpable, appropriate sanctions would be applied.
“The attention of our great party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has been drawn to a viral video allegedly showing Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, in an act of assault against a citizen,” Opara said.
“As a political party founded on respect for human rights, we roundly condemn the actions of our member, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh. APGA is committed to upholding the dignity of all humans, regardless of class, creed, or ethnicity.”
“The recent video allegedly showing Hon. Ikwechegh assaulting a cab driver is entirely unacceptable and runs counter to the values our party represents.”
In accordance with APGA’s constitution, the party leadership will establish a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter. If found wanting, Opara stated that appropriate sanctions would be imposed, as prescribed by APGA’s constitution.
“All members of APGA, including all elected officials on our platform, are expected to uphold the highest standards of decorum, civility, and integrity in both public and private engagements. Our party will not tolerate any verified conduct that deviates from the ideals set forth by our founding fathers,” he added.
