The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Benard Odoh, has debunked allegations questioning his academic credentials, asserting that the selection process for the position of Vice Chancellor was transparent and conclusive.
Prof. Odoh dismissed these claims as baseless and urged the public to disregard them. Speaking at a press briefing in Awka, his Personal Assistant for Media and Publicity, Mr. Charles Otu, provided clarity on the matter.
“The race for the seventh substantive Vice Chancellor concluded on October 29, 2024, with Prof. Odoh emerging victorious, scoring 90 points. A National Industrial Court sitting in Awka validated the Governing Council’s scoring templates. The Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe-led Governing Council also addressed concerns raised by the Medical and Dental Council Association of Nigeria, ensuring a fair hearing,” Otu explained.
Highlighting Prof. Odoh’s academic achievements, Otu stated:
“Prof. Odoh earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences in 1999, a Master of Science in Applied Geophysics, and a Doctorate in Applied Geophysics from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2008. In 2014, he served as a Visiting Professor of Geophysics at the Federal University Gusau and was elevated to the rank of Professor of Applied Geophysics in 2015.”
Otu further called on the media to verify information before publication, describing Prof. Odoh as a visionary leader dedicated to the best interests of the public.
“The era of contest for the Vice Chancellor position is over, and Prof. Odoh remains focused on advancing the university’s mission and vision,” Otu concluded.
