The Anambra State Amalgamated Market Traders Association (ASMATA) has formally declared its support for the reelection of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Traders from across the state’s seven market zones converged in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra, on Sunday to affirm their backing during a grand rally.
The day commenced with a special thanksgiving Mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cathedral, led by Chief Humphrey Anuna, the President General of ASMATA. Anuna emphasized that the thanksgiving was an opportunity to glorify God for His blessings on the lives of traders and to acknowledge the transformational leadership Anambra State has experienced under Governor Soludo.
Speaking at the rally, Chief Anuna expressed pride in ASMATA’s association with Soludo’s administration, describing it as a privilege to be part of the governor’s remarkable success story.
“Traders play a pivotal role in the development of this state. We are major contributors. Under this administration, our annual revenue has risen from N400 million to over N9 billion, thanks to the commitment of our market leaders,” Anuna stated.
He also addressed challenges faced by his leadership, including allegations and petitions by detractors aimed at destabilizing ASMATA’s operations. Anuna dismissed these efforts, maintaining that his focus remains on eliminating illegal revenue collections and ensuring that all government dues are appropriately remitted.
“I am aware of the plots to undermine my leadership with baseless accusations. However, a clear conscience fears no accusation. We remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the traders and the state,” he asserted.
Reiterating ASMATA’s unwavering support for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Soludo, Anuna pledged that the association would work tirelessly to ensure the governor’s reelection in 2025.
Mr. Evarist Uba, Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Markets, commended ASMATA under Chief Anuna’s leadership for its significant contributions to Anambra’s growth. Uba highlighted the numerous achievements of Soludo’s administration and assured the traders that they would remain a priority in the government’s developmental agenda.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Samuel Chinedu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, urged the market community to continue supporting Governor Soludo’s vision for the state.
The rally, attended by key ASMATA stakeholders and government officials, marked a unified call for continuity and progress under Soludo’s leadership.
