The Anambra Joint Task Force (JTF) on Security has dismantled a criminal gang suspected to be enforcing the controversial Monday Sit-at-Home order. The operation, carried out in Nkwelle-Ezunaka community, Oyi Local Government Area, led to the arrest of two gang members while one escaped and remains at large.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the crackdown occurred on November 25, 2024, during a police-led anti-Sit-at-Home patrol in collaboration with local vigilante operatives.
“Police-led Anti-Sit-at-Home Joint Patrol with Anambra Vigilante Operatives on 25/11/2024 at 10 am burst a notorious criminal gang of three in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area. Two armed suspects were arrested, and one, popularly known as Akada, has been declared wanted for armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and enforcement of the illegal Sit-at-Home order,” SP Ikenga stated.
The operatives recovered an English-made pistol and other incriminating items during the operation.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, both residents of Nkwelle-Ezunaka, were apprehended following a hot chase after a victim raised an alarm. The victim reported being held at gunpoint and robbed of his iPhone and other personal belongings.
“Both suspects have confessed to the crime and identified Akada, who is currently at large, as their gang leader,” the statement added.
SP Ikenga assured the public that efforts are underway to track and apprehend other gang members, and further updates would be communicated in due course.
This development is part of the Anambra State Government’s intensified efforts to combat insecurity and rid communities of criminal elements.
