Ahead of the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Grassroot Alliance (PGA) has insisted that there is no need for a fresh primary election, urging the party to nominate Chief Chris Uba as its consensus candidate.
This position comes as about seven aspirants have already indicated interest in the party’s candidacy.
According to the Convener of the PDP Grassroot Alliance, Chief Ernest Nwankwo, who spoke shortly after a meeting of the group in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, Chief Chris Uba is a key stakeholder in the party who has significantly contributed to its growth in the state.
“We have just concluded a meeting of our body, which cuts across the entire Anambra South Senatorial District. After evaluating all the aspirants interested in the party’s ticket, we found Chief Chris Uba to be the only aspirant with the capacity to win the bye-election in the Senatorial District,” Nwankwo stated.
“There is no one who does not know Chief Chris Uba. He has remained a loyal party member and is the only aspirant capable of matching candidates from other political parties.”
Nwankwo continued, “Conducting a fresh primary election would be a waste of time and resources and could lead to fresh issues arising from the process. Therefore, it is fair and proper for our great party, the PDP, to endorse Chief Chris Uba as a consensus candidate to ensure we are well-prepared for the bye-election.”
He described other aspirants as good party members but argued that they lack the capacity and experience required to deliver victory for the party in the bye-election.
“The contest for the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election is not an all-comers affair but a race for the best and those with the necessary capacity,” he concluded.
