Fresh facts have emerged regarding the tragic death of three children from the same family in Nise, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Contrary to earlier reports that they were murdered by unknown assailants, it has been confirmed that the children suffocated inside their father’s car, parked in the compound.
Investigations revealed no signs of physical assault, no marks to indicate the use of weapons, and no evidence that they were tied with ropes.
The President-General of Nise Community, Chief Anthony Nwabuona, explained:
“We received a distress call from the head of our local vigilante group about the death of the children. Upon rushing to the scene, we found the lifeless bodies of the children. It was later confirmed that they had entered their father’s car to play and inadvertently locked themselves inside. They were unable to open the car, leading to their tragic demise.”
He added, “The youngest of them had visible swelling due to lack of air, as the windows of the car were completely closed. We want to clarify that they were not slaughtered as previously reported. An official entry has been made with the police regarding the unfortunate incident.”
The leader of the vigilante group corroborated the account, stating:
“We rushed to the house immediately after receiving the information. On arrival, we found the grieving parents and sympathizers. According to the father, the gate of the house had been locked. Upon returning and searching the premises, he found the three children, two boys and a girl, ifeless inside his car.”
Chief Nwabuona further criticized the parents for leaving the young children at home without adult supervision, emphasizing that the tragedy could have been avoided if an older person had been present.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated:
“The command has received the report and has commenced an investigation. The father of the victims has been interviewed, and we are working with the information provided.”
Chief Nwabuona confirmed that the children’s bodies were released after police investigations ruled out foul play, concluding that the deaths were caused by suffocation.
This tragic incident underscores the need for greater parental vigilance and community awareness to prevent such avoidable losses.
