Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has presented cheques totaling over ₦33 million to 54 officers and families of personnel under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Scheme.
The initiative underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel, as well as the families of those who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
The IGP had earlier introduced the welfare package as a morale-boosting mechanism for officers and men, particularly those serving in high-risk environments.
Speaking during a lecture on effective policing for the Christmas and New Year celebrations held at the Command Headquarters, Awka, CP Orutugu urged officers to remain alive to their responsibilities and uphold the highest standards in the discharge of their duties.
Addressing senior officers, the CP reiterated the IGP’s resolve to ensure a hitch-free festive season across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement:
“The CP opened the session by conveying the Inspector-General of Police’s commendation to officers and men of the Command for their professionalism and exemplary conduct during the recently concluded Governorship Election.”
Ikenga further noted that the CP charged all strategic officers to intensify proactive policing as the Yuletide approaches, following operational briefings received from Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical units.
“CP Orutugu emphasized the need for strengthened intelligence-driven operations, increased visibility policing, more robust patrol systems, and strict adherence to the Command’s Anti-Crime Operational Plan—all geared toward ensuring a peaceful and secure festive season across Anambra State.”
He added that the CP urged commanders to remain vigilant, professional, community-oriented, and to respond swiftly and decisively to any emerging security concerns.
On the welfare intervention, the PPRO stated:
“In a related development, the Commissioner of Police presented cheques amounting to ₦33,158,545.65 to fifty-four (54) beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme. The gesture demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Police High Command to the welfare of officers and the families of those who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.”
SP Ikenga concluded that the CP reassured residents of the Command’s readiness to provide effective security throughout the Yuletide and encouraged members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities.
