…Lauds Peter Obi’s defection, calls NDC a credible alternative…

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially reset its structure in Anambra State, inaugurating a fresh State Executive Committee following the constitutional dissolution of its former leadership.
At a well-attended congress held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Beautiful Gate Hotel Awka, Hon. David Patrick Chukwudifu emerged as the substantive State Chairman, mandated to pilot the party’s affairs over the next four years.
Other members of the newly elected EXCO, all produced through a consensus process, include:
Barr. Udeze Arinzechukwu Daniel (State Secretary), Hon. Austin Onyeka (Assistant Secretary), Hon. Samuel Orji (Treasurer), Ahmed Hauwa (Assistant Treasurer), Chioma Okonkwo (Financial Secretary), Udensi Samuel (Organizing Secretary), Obumse Nwachukwu (Legal Adviser), and Nweke Juliet (Publicity Secretary), among others.
The emergence of the new leadership followed the formal dissolution of the previous EXCO, moved by Hon. Celestine Osunkwo. Subsequently, Hon. Prince Chukwuemeka Achufusi (former Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Anaocha LGA) moved a motion for the immediate conduct of a fresh congress, seconded by Hon. Chinedu Odozor of Onitsha South LGA, paving the way for the seamless transition.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Chukwudifu expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support, describing his emergence as both humbling and divinely orchestrated.
“NDC is fast becoming the number one party in Nigeria, driven by massive grassroots membership. We are prioritizing people over positions because every vote counts.
The entry of Peter Obi into our party is a defining moment because he represents credible leadership and hope.”
He further reflected on Obi’s popular quote about rising beyond limitations, “One day, the son of a nobody will become somebody without knowing anybody”, noting that his own emergence as one of the youngest state chairmen underscores that very reality.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Kingsley Ajunwa and Mr. Nonso Okolo from the Election and Party Monitoring Department, monitored the exercise and confirmed that the congress was peaceful, orderly, and conducted in line with due process, with all executives elected by consensus.
