The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for its third and final phase, scheduled to commence on May 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on May 5, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission disclosed that the exercise will run until July 10, 2026, providing another opportunity for eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.
INEC recalled that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to enable the Commission carry out a clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.According to the Commission, the final phase is open to citizens who have recently turned 18, as well as those who were unable to register during previous phases.
It also urged already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details to take advantage of the exercise.
Eligible Nigerians can complete parts of the process online via the Commission’s CVR portal or visit INEC offices across states and local government areas nationwide for physical registration and assistance.
INEC further announced that the updated Register of Voters will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026, allowing citizens to raise claims and objections to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the register.
The Commission assured the public that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for a smooth exercise, urging all eligible citizens to participate actively in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
