Describes verdict as a positive step towards judicial excellence
Citypost News Desk The Anambra State Chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Hon. Bldr. Chukwujiokem Okeke, has commended the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja for upholding the registration and legal status of the party, describing the judgement as a significant victory for democracy and judicial excellence in Nigeria.
In a landmark ruling, the appellate court declared the APP as “validly registered and validly existing,” thereby putting to rest, series of legal disputes challenging the legitimacy of the party.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the full participation of the party in all future elections across the country.
According to details of the judgement, the appeal arose from the decision of the Federal High Court, Owerri Division, presided over by Justice I.N. Oweibo, delivered on November 25, 2025, which dismissed the suit filed by the appellant.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the appellant approached the Court of Appeal through a notice of appeal dated November 26, 2025.
Reacting to the development, the Anambra State Chairman of APP, Hon. Okeke described the verdict as a demonstration of the commitment of the Nigerian judiciary to uphold the rule of law and protect democratic institutions.
“I received the news of the Appeal Court judgement with utmost appreciation. It is a demonstration of the readiness of the Nigerian judiciary to uphold the rule of law. The court legally and professionally scuttled the handiwork of mischief makers by standing on the side of truth,” he stated.
The APP chairman alleged that certain individuals had made deliberate attempts to undermine the party, but noted that the judgement reaffirmed the solid legal and democratic foundation upon which the APP stands.
“The mischief makers made efforts to destroy the very foundation of our beloved party, not knowing that APP is well rooted in law and democratic principles,” he added. Hon. Okeke further expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the party, particularly the National Chairman, Barr. Uche Nnadi, alongside members of the National Executive Committee and National Working Committee, for their resilience and commitment throughout the legal battle.
He described the court victory as a turning point for the party, saying the development has further strengthened APP’s internal democracy and positioned it for greater national relevance.
“It was just a delay to the fortunes of APP, but with this latest development, we are standing on a better pedestal; a reinforced foundation for internal democracy and national service,” he said.
The Anambra APP chairman also used the opportunity to call on political aspirants across all levels to embrace the party as a credible platform for the pursuit of their political ambitions, citing the party’s firm ideology and visionary leadership as key attractions.
He maintained that the judgement has restored confidence in the party and opened a new chapter for its growth and participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
