INEC Extends Deadline for Submission of Candidates for 2027 Presidential, National Assembly Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

The Commission announced that the previous deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ details within the stipulated timeframe.

INEC stated that the extension reflects its commitment to promoting inclusivity and ensuring that all political parties are given a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process, while remaining within the provisions of the law.

The electoral body urged political parties to utilize the additional time effectively by completing the upload of all required information before the expiration of the new deadline.

The Commission reiterated its determination to conduct a transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.
