The Anambra State Police Command has described the recent attack on residential settlers in Agu-Ifite as a calculated criminal act designed to incite ethnic tension and destabilize the prevailing peace and security in the state.
In a security update issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga,, the Police noted that the attack, which occurred in the early hours of July 21, 2026, was orchestrated by criminal elements seeking to create division among residents. However, the Command commended Ndi Anambra for their continued commitment to unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, stressing that residents have refused to be drawn into divisive ethnic narratives.
According to the Police, the collective resolve of citizens to maintain harmony has significantly frustrated the perpetrators’ objective of sowing discord and insecurity in the state.
Following the incident, the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, deployed a Joint Security Team to the affected area for an on-the-spot assessment and operational review. The team also held engagements with community leaders, representatives of the affected settlers, and other critical stakeholders to gather firsthand information and reinforce confidence in ongoing security efforts.
The Command disclosed that intelligence obtained from survivors and other credible sources has yielded useful leads that are currently being pursued. As a result, security agencies have intensified intelligence-driven operations and coordinated manhunt efforts aimed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting all individuals connected to the attack.
While urging residents to remain calm and vigilant, the Police called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The Command further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding all law-abiding residents of Anambra State, regardless of ethnic or religious background, assuring that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice and sustaining the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed across the state.
