As the state warms up ahead of regional outing

St. Patrick’s College, Awka, has emerged as the best in Anambra State at the prestigious NILDS National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy, thanks to the outstanding performance of its lead competitor, Anthony Chikwualuka Okeke from Ndiagu Village, Namkpu, Mbaukwu.
Okeke, who carried the school’s banner during the competition, showcased exceptional brilliance and deep understanding of democratic and legislative processes, securing the top spot for St. Patrick’s College among schools drawn from the six educational zones of Anambra State.
With this victory, the institution now advances to the South East Regional stage of the competition, reaffirming its status as a powerhouse of academic excellence.
The keenly contested quiz, organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), was held at the Anambra State House of Assembly complex, Awka.
According to the Director General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, represented by Principal Training Officer Uchenna Okechukwu, the competition is designed to deepen students’ knowledge of democracy and inspire active participation in governance.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Edmund Udeaja noted that the exercise was tailored to broaden students’ interest in politics and nurture future leaders. Similarly, the Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Anayor Okpalaeke, commended NILDS for conducting such an intellectually stimulating contest.
Reacting after his victory, Anthony Okeke expressed gratitude to his teachers and parents for their support. He described the quiz as a life-shaping experience that has strengthened his interest in governance and leadership. He further urged young people in Anambra State to take education seriously, stressing that it remains the most powerful tool to unlock potential, overcome challenges, and achieve greatness.
With Okeke at the forefront, St. Patrick’s College Awka stands tall as it prepares to represent Anambra State at the South East regional stage of the NILDS National Quiz Competition.
