2027: INEC Opens Online Access to Preliminary Voters’ Register Ahead of Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election available online following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over public access to the document.

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission said the register would be accessible through its online platform at https://display.inecnigeria.org.

INEC explained that the online publication complements the physical display of the Preliminary Register of Voters conducted nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The physical exercise provided registered voters with the opportunity to verify their personal details and submit claims and objections as prescribed by law.

According to the Commission, the decision to provide online access followed concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the need to make the register available digitally in addition to the physical display.

INEC said the additional measure was designed to broaden public access to the register and strengthen transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.

The Commission added that it was still processing claims and objections arising from the exercise in preparation for the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters.

It stated that the Final Register of Voters would be published on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 General Election.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the faithful implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, while appreciating Nigerians and other stakeholders for their continued interest and constructive engagement in the electoral process.
