In a bid to foster economic growth and technological advancement in the South-East region of Nigeria, the Director General of the South-East Governors Forum (SEGOF), Senator Uche Ekwunife, participated in the China-Nigeria Economic and Trade Expo held in Abuja earlier today. Representing the visionary leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Senator Ekwunife’s presence at the event underscored the region’s commitment to embracing innovative solutions for sustainable development.
During the expo, Senator Ekwunife toured various display stands, engaging with Chinese exhibitors and exploring cutting-edge technologies. She was particularly impressed by the high-quality solar energy-saving products, agricultural processing machinery, hydro, and compressed natural gas (CNG) power plants showcased at the event. Noting that those innovations hold immense potential to transform the South-East region’s infrastructure and economy.
Speaking at the event, Senator Ekwunife emphasized the strategic importance of the cutting-edge technologies to the South-East, adding that Solar energy products could significantly improve electricity access, particularly in rural communities, while reducing dependence on the national grid. The agricultural processing machinery could enhance food production, reduce post-harvest losses, and open new avenues for export, thus boosting the region’s economy. She further stated that, hydro and CNG power plants could provide cleaner and more reliable energy, aligning with global sustainability goals.
“Under the leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma, the South-East Governors Forum has prioritized creating an enabling environment to attract investments in technology and infrastructure. By leveraging partnerships with nations like China, the region seeks to bridge developmental gaps and unlock its economic potential.”
Senator Ekwunife expressed optimism about the prospects of establishing collaborations with Chinese firms, noting that their expertise aligns with the developmental priorities of the South-East. “These innovations resonate with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration and the vision of the South-East Governors Forum for a self-reliant and prosperous region,” she remarked.
The Senator’s visit highlights the collective resolve of South-East leaders to harness global innovations, ensuring that the region remains a beacon of progress and sustainability in Nigeria.
